Cinco de Mayo

Day set aside to observe and commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.
Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling

Ever wanted to experience something a little more with your cheese? Start by checking out Cooper’s Hill on the last Monday in May. The idea is: a handmade, seven-pound circle of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled down the hill and a crowd of people chase/roll down to after it.
Grand Festival of Spring
Location: Nikko, Japan
Dates: TBA
The highlight of the festival is the Samurai procession taken by 1,000 men. They dress as full clad samurai warriors of the 18th century. Tokugawa is said to have brought the peace and political stability that laid the foundations for modern day Japan. Anyone seen “The Last Samurai”?
Vivid Sydney–Light, Music and Ideas Festival

“Vivid Sydney is where art, technology and commerce intersect. Â The program features large scale light installations and projections (Vivid Light); music performances and collaborations (Vivid Music including Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House); and creative ideas, discussion and debate (Vivid Ideas). All three celebrate Sydney as a creative hub of the Asia-Pacific.” Vivid Sydney.
Brighton Festival

This mixed arts festival is the biggest arts festival in the country – previous guest directors Vanessa Redgrave, Anish Kapoor and Hofesh Shechter. There are events scheduled across Brighton, including debates and musical and theatrical performances – many exclusive to the festival alone!
