Our Stay at L’auberge Carmel
As we entered the lobby of the L’Auberge Carmel hotel, we were enchanted by this full service French Country Inn.
We were greeted with hospitable service, our car was valet parked, luggage carried to our spacious room, and we felt swept away into the Carmel fairytale as we sipped our welcome hibiscus tea in the main courtyard.
A member of Relais et Chateaux, L’Auberge Carmel is located in the heart of the Carmel forest, yet only a few blocks from the glorious Carmel Beach.
History of L’auberge Carmel
The hotel dates back to 1929 and exudes Old World Charm while providing a luxurious experience. Its 20 guest rooms were restored in the last decade, and each room is uniquely designed with modern amenities, fine linens, down bedding, flat screen panel TV’s, wireless internet access, and large bath areas with radiant floor heating, some with soaking tubs.
Although this hotel has modern conveniences, the decorators kept the original plaster walls, French windows and antique doorknobs and maintained its Old World appeal.
L’Auberge Carmel has received high rankings from Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List and most recently Travel & Leisure’s Top 500 World’s Best Hotels List.

The hotel’s restaurant, Aubergine is an award winning retaurant and was recently voted Fifth best in San Francisco and Bay Area Retaurants by Zagat.
