Whether you’re off to your cabin on the Lake or in the Air, creature comforts can make a difference. Recently, I flew an Air Canada red-eye flight to Toronto. I was dreading the flight since I didn’t get much sleep the night before. Exhausted, eyes glazed over, I dragged my feet and carry-on down the aisle to my economy seat. Expectations were low, as I began to brace myself for another sleepless night. Most of us have been there, so you know what I mean.
My experience flying Air Canada
Made it to seat 25B, and overheard the Flight Attendant offer a pillow and blanket to a fellow economy seat passenger. When I asked him if he had any extras, he said pillows and blankets are offered to economy class at a nominal fee. I put my order in! Once the pillow and blanket arrived, I started to relax as I reclined my head into the soft pillow and the blanket warmed me up. Thought you could only feel this way in 1st class, but my economy set-up turned out better than I had expected.
Turned off my personal reading light, and stretched into the 17” wide, and 33” high economy seat then fell into a deep slumber before the flight took off.
Hours later, we landed in Toronto and I awoke rested. The only disappointment was that I didn’t get to enjoy the XM Satellite Radio, or watch any of the entertainment from my personal ~9” TV, with high-quality earphones that are available on Air Canada North American flights.
However, I did take advantage of the in-seat power for my laptop, so I got powered up before landing. Having a “powered-up” device helped me get work done on the shuttle into the City, so I was ready for my morning meetings. Before leaving the plane, I tucked the complimentary copy of the award winning enRoute magazine in my bag, for reading about more places I want to travel to….with Air Canada.
Creature comforts, as simple as a blanket, a pillow, an outlet, a reading light, decent seat width and height, nice washroom products can mean a good flight or mediocre flight, a good night sleep or no sleep, being prepared or not prepared when you land. These small amenities add up to making your evening and/or day better. Thanks Air Canada for helping me to have a great day!
