Before I knew it, my hips were swaying to the beat of the Tahitian drums and Polynesian fanfare at one of the #1 Heiva Performances at Le Meridien.
Heiva i Tahiti is the largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti that takes place on several islands in the South Pacific and lasts from May through July, and this year, 2012, was the 130th Heiva Festival.
There are dance performances, competitions, dance schools, songs contests, Heiva tu’aro maohi or traditional sports, awards ceremonies throughout this celebratory two months.
Some of the Heiva events take place at beautiful To’ata Square in Papeete, Tahiti.
