Want to kayak to a private island just for you? Where anything you wish….is granted?
Visit Cayo Espanto
It exists! Come join Global Adventuress as we kayak through the crystal clear Belizean waters to an exotic four acre private island called Cayo Espanto – click here!
Cayo Espanto, is a tropical Oz that provides the ultimate in luxury and seclusion. It’s a dreamy place to celebrate special memories or privately retreat and indulge ourself. Cayo Espanto was awarded the 2013 Trip Advisor Travelers’ choice winner Top 10 Hotels for Romance – Central America and ISLANDS Magazine Top 10 Best Private Islands in the World.
There are many ways to get here besides kayaking. You can fly in by helicopter, or take the resort’s private speed boat from the town of San Pedro on the Ambergris Caye. It’s remote, yet only about 20 minutes by air from Belize City or 5 minutes by boat from San Pedro.
You can watch this video and get a sneak peek of the Cayo Espanto experience – click Cayo Espanto Private Island Resort in Belize, and read about our few days in “paradise away from home“.
Experiences on Cayo Espanto
From the second you arrive, the friendly staff greets you at a private dock with cool washcloths and frozen tropical drinks. They stand ready to attend to your every whim.
We were assigned two Personal Butlers, called “Housemen” on this island, Johnny and Larry. Our Housemen gave us a walkie talkie so all we had to do was use it whenever we needed anything. A wish granted….just a walkie-talkie call away.
A drink to quench your thirst? your wish granted…
An outdoor massage? your wish granted…
Your favorite snack? your wish granted…
Want to go Hobie cat sailing? your wish granted…
Need a cool wash cloth? your wish granted…
Cayo Espanto has seven charming villas with five-star accommodations and a staff ratio of two-to-one.
Where to Stay?
Wondering where you will stay as you visit Cayo Espanto? We stayed in Casa Estrella and felt like the rock stars and celebrities who stayed here before us. Our spacious 2,500 sq. ft. two-story villa was exquisite with two-bedrooms, two full baths, two Caribbean view balconies, and a panorama sea view with a personal plunge pool, alfresco shower, and two private docks!
Our villa was adorned with colorful tropical flowers, and a private plunge pool to cool off from the Caribbean heat, or a hammock to rest from your travels and fall into your Belizean holiday. Our housemen awaited us and helped us get familiar with our new home, and offered to unpack our bags.
The most difficult decision was figuring out where to sit. We could sit on our private dock #1, or our private dock #2, or on the stylish teak chairs on our deck, or kick back in the hammock. Laying back, with eyes closed, I could hear the waves gently lapping on our shore, and the breeze whispering through the palm fronds.
Luxury Dining Experiences
The only other decision we had to make was trying to decide what to eat and when to eat and where to eat. Each day, we were presented with a menu of options by the island Chefs Richard Gillett and Wilson Vasquez. Each meal was carefully prepared to ensure our dietary needs were met. We enjoyed three tailored meals a day, our favorite snacks and tropical drinks, and even afternoon tea! The food during our visit to Cayo Espanto was the icing on the cake!
We had delicious fluffy banana pancakes for breakfast, fresh tropical fruit and anything else our heart or stomach desired.
Fish tacos with margaritas for lunch, or a grilled chicken salad and grand finales like bananas foster! The trick was to get the ice cream delivered before it melted in the outdoor heat. Somehow our housemen managed to keep it from melting.
In Caribbean Downton Abbey style, we were served high tea each afternoon.
This gave us a few hours before our dinner. Each meal, our housemen found the best spot to set up our dining tables – personal docks, decks, in our comfortable villa, and under the palm trees on our secluded beach.
At sunset, the staff blows the conch shell to sound to islanders that the evening has arrived and dinners will be served soon.
Dinners at Cayo Espanto are the most memorable meals! The dramatic sunset was our backdrop, with a candlelit walkway to the tiki torch dinner table leading us to another enchanted evening.
We were treated like royalty!
When the food arrived, both of our housemen must have rehearsed a count of “1-2-3”, when they simultaneously lifted silver domes off our plates to present our entrees. It was as if we had waved magic wands and divine cuisine magically appeared.
During our stay on Cayo Espanto, we were invited to a private cooking class with the Chef and learned how to make the Cayo Espanto Ceviche, Lime Bisque, and the island’s special cinnamon rolls.
While in the kitchen, we saw assistant chefs and pastry chefs busily getting meals ready for all the guests.
There are many activities to explore during your stay, or you can just relax in your villa’s hammock or plunge pool.
Fly fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, water paddling, or take a walk around the private island and enjoy the whimsical drawings made by the staff in the sand walkways.
The resort can arrange for other tours – diving, cave exploring, visiting ruins…just let them know and they can arrange it all.
The resort brochure reads, “Cayo Espanto is an exclusive resort for the discriminating few who demand the best that life has to offer.” We didn’t have to demand anything because the staff appeared clairvoyant and already knew what we wanted.
Many guests come here only once in their lives for an anniversary, a wedding, a honeymoon, or milestone birthday.
Some just to escape, come here solo for a tropical getaway. But no matter the reason, most everyone wants to return to their new “paradise away from home“.
It was time to leave our private island, and I wasn’t sure how I could now go home with my new habit…having every wish granted. I couldn’t find my Genie in a bottle, but know if there’s ever a time to have your every wish granted, Cayo Espanto is just a couple hours away from the U.S.A.
Before long, I’ll be clicking my ruby thongs, and repeating “there’s no place like this paradise away from home”…”there’s no place like this paradise away from home”….and hope when my eyes open, I’ll return to this fantasmasical island.
The staff, our Cayo Espanto family now, sent us off with a farewell but no goodbyes. Instead, we all said, “see you again soon!”
A private island awaits you, and it is tailor made just for you!
