Sayulita Surfing

Sayulita, Mexico is an ideal destination for both novice surfers hoping to learn the sport and expert surfers with endless waves under their belts. Sayulita is a small town located about 45 minutes North of Puerto Vallarta, making access especially easy and convenient.  However, don’t expect to see large condos and all-inclusive water park hotels; brace yourself for dirt roads, lush jungles, an especially eclectic local population, die-hard surfers, and the best street tacos you can find in all of Mexico.

I joined Access Trips for a 7 daySurf-Yoga adventure.  The trip was evenfeatured in the New York Times’ Adventure Guide to Mexico sayulita surfing

Where to Stay

We stayed at Playa Escondido hotel, which provided direct beach access, stunning views, great local cuisine, and an indoor-outdoor jungle ambiance..  The only downside was no air conditioning!sayulita surfing

Start each day re-balancing andre-centering on a perch overlooking the ocean with a 1.5 hour yoga session provided by the wonderful instructors at Yoga Paraiso.

Surf School

Wild Mex Surf School planned our surf itinerary and provided the instructors that had us addicted to the wavesby the end of our week .  The best surfing beaches included:  La Loncha,Burros Beach, and Punta de Mita.  Ask the locals about accessing La Loncha and Burros, as the entrance can be hard to identify.  And be prepared for short hikes through the jungle to access the beaches, but well worth it!sayulita surfing

Everything in the town of Sayulitais walking distance, charming, and un-tainted by negative side of tourism.  Beaches are rarely crowded, and there are no Wal-Marts in sight!  While in town, stops at the following eateries are a must:
