Papagayo Resort Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s best kept secret is tucked away in its northwestern corner, along the northern Guanacaste shoreline overlooking the Gulf of Papagayo. After our Windstar Cruise, we decided to spend 24 hours at Papagayo, and check out some of the world’s most luxurious resorts and beaches.
We found a peninsula with incredible natural beauty!
Here are a couple places we recommend staying, and what to do, and how to get there.
STAY & DO
Where to Stay?
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo
The Four Seasons Papagayo is a perfect place for a tropical getaway, an oasis nestled in nature, on the tip of the Papagayo Peninsula. A luxury ecotourism destination where guests can zip-line through jungle canopies or spend a day on quiet golden sandy beaches.
This resort offers a unique “Pura Vida” combination of eco-adventure, delicious cuisine, a serene spa, a championship golf course, and luxury accommodations in beautiful natural surroundings. So many activities to choose from…Sports fishing? Horseback Riding? Exploring the Monteverde Cloud Forest?
Or opt for a day at the spa and be nurtured by the healing traditions of Central America. We had the Rainforest Massage treatment and picked out the essential oils and music for our personalized treatments. While soaking in the outdoor hot and cold tubs, we bird watched and looked out to the Pacific Ocean.
Don’t leave without dining at Sol y Sombra and order a bucket of cerviche of queen sea bass with red onion & tomato citrus, red snapper with mango & green plantain patacones, and shrimp with coconut & passion fruit.
Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort
If you love architecture, modern style with a hip vibe, check into Andaz Papagayo located in Guanacaste. The dramatic entry is stunning. From checking in at the open air lobby to walking the grounds to our room, we immediately loved this resort.
This Andaz property is situated on a bluff that overlooks the Gulf of Papagayo and the sapphire blue waters of Culebra Bay.
The interior design of the rooms are designed with indigenous culture and natural materials. Andaz surprises guests with their creativity, and each room has hats and baskets for guests to carry their beach/pool items.
Our room had a welcome treat, a bowl of unique tropical fruit called Granadilla, from the passion fruit family with an orange delicate skin. Andaz introduces guest to authentic local experiences like these.
We dined at Chao Pescao where we enjoyed local cuisine and live Latin music. The breakfast selection was impressive with freshly squeezed juices, and more local cuisine at the open air Rio Bhongo restaurant.
This property offers beautiful pools, a spa, two gold sand beaches, a championship golf course, tennis courts, and lush natural trails through coastal mountains. Guests can also go on day trips to Rincón de la Vieja National Park, Marina Papagayo, and Palo Verde National Park.
