As we stepped into Roberto Marussi’s Al Bagatto Restaurant,  www.albagatto.it , we thought we had left outside the famous Trieste “bora”, a strong wind that blows through the city. But as we absorbed Al Bagatto’s ambiance, there was a different, an almost magical “bora” in the air! Chef Roberto Marussi passion for excellence and fresh, yet simple food is the driving force behind the fresh Adriatic fish dishes that flow from the Al Bagatto kitchen. Marussi has teamed with other Trieste locals to gather the freshest of ingredients and then he waves his wand to create culinary wonders!  Al Bagatto stands out as a simple, elegant restaurant that provides exceptional food and a cozy atmosphere in it’s small dining room.
The small dining room creates an atmosphere that is the perfect backdrop for the beautiful and simply delightful dishes from the kitchen that appear at your table. We were fortunate to experience the superb classic tasting menu for dinner, each course incredibly fresh and creative with fish that was undoubtedly the prime catch of the day, and produce and artisan cheeses that were incredibly fresh provided by local sources.  The service is impeccable with precison timing on the presentation of each beautiful course. The Tagliolini with mint and sea bass was divine. Each course was paired with an elegant local wine that enhanced and complemented the fish and pasta perfectly. From greeting us at the door and throughout our dining experience, Roberto Marussi made us feel like we were at home. If we were locals, we’d dine at Al Bagatto every evening.
We kept the menu and wine list a a keepsake to share below.
It is always hard to pick a favorite meal, but this will be in the Top 10 of all time. Perfecto!
